HCT Packaging has created the eyeshadow, lip tint and blush compacts for the new cosmetics line, Kjaer Weis.

Created by Danish make-up artist Kirsten Kjaer Weis, the line is 95 percent organic and is certified by the Italian certifying body CCPB. According to the company, it is free from parabens, petrochemical emulsifiers and synthetic colors and fragrances.

Made from ZAMAC (a family of alloys), the refillable compacts that feature a white enamelled KW logo and operate with a sliding mechanism were designed by Marc Atlan.

A spokesperson for HCT told CosmeticsDesign.com USA that ZAMAC is a popular choice for use in cosmetics packaging due to its high-end luxury feel (solid weight) and aesthetic.

“It is an ideal choice for short runs of limited edition as the tooling costs are cheaper than plastic,” the spokesperson added.

Refillable compact

Although ZAMAC is not recyclable, the compacts are refillable and refill pans come in recyclable paper cartons.

“The compact has a hole in the bottom which allows you to push the pan out. Shades are sold separately to the compact so once you have finished the product you simply push the old pan out and refill it with a new one,” the spokesperson explained.

HCT also created the secondary packaging for the line, which comprises red lacquered grain-textured boxes that according to HCT are reminiscent of prestige jewelry boxes. HCT also created the recyclable papered clamshells in which the refillable pans are held.

“It is for sure one the most visually and functionally appealing ZAMAC compact ranges to date,” commented David Greco, director of sales at HCT’s New Jersey office.

In the past, HCT has used Zamac to produce the patented tips for Dior’s Capture Totale eye serum, which is claimed to give a cooling effect to the eye area.
