Germany-based cosmetics ingredients supplier Dr Straetmans has signed an agreement to become the exclusive distributor of Beraca’s functional ingredients in Austria and Germany.

The Brazilian company’s cosmetics portfolio mainly comprises natural oils and butters from the Amazonian region such as Açai, Brazil Nut and Cupuaçu butter, and also includes active ingredients for skin and hair.

Extending Dr Straetmans portfolio

Dr Fernando Ibarra, sales and marketing manager at Dr Straetmans said the addition of Beraca’s portfolio represents ‘a perfect extension’ to its own line of ingredients.

“We cover the basic ingredients for cosmetics like basic oils, emulsifiers, antioxidants and natural preservation systems,” he told CosmeticsDesignEurope.com

“With Beraca's oils and butters we can offer a complete range of basic and functional ingredients for the manufacturing of high class conventional and certified natural cosmetics,” he explained.

According to Dr Straetman’s, all of Beraca’s ingredients are sustainably and ethically sourced in co-operation with local communities, and most are available in certified organic grades.

Beraca and sustainability

Beraca has long been committed to social and environmental sustainability and is involved in several projects that provide education and employment to local communities.

For this and its efforts towards preserving biodiversity, Beraca has received several awards, including a United Nations SEED Award for Entrepreneurship in Sustainable Development.

‘The Sustainable use of Amazonian seeds’ project, awarded for its business project in Marajo Island, aimed to transform the collection of andiroba seeds into an alternative source of income for the island communities.

Beraca encouraged the creation of a cooperative called Coopemaflima by providing training, which enabled the extraction of oil from the seeds to be carried out within the community. At the time of receiving the award, Beraca said it buys 500 tons of seeds annually from the co-operative ,which benefits approximately 1,000 islanders.
