The ingredient, Tego Turmerone, is a distilled fraction of turmeric oil extracted from the root of the Indian spice plant.

Originally released a couple of years ago when Evonik Industries introduced a new range of plant extracts, the company claims it is now re-launching the active as it has new data to support its use.

According to the company, the extract has significant anti-oxidant properties and can be used for a wide range of cosmetic applications.

Products designed to even skin tone and increase radiance can benefit from the extract, Evonik claimed, citing an in vitro study that showed the ingredient induces the cell’s own defence mechanisms against oxidative stress.

In addition, it said that an in vivo study showed that the ingredient in facial skin care products can reduce wrinkle appearance.

Ecocert approved

The extract has been manufactured using a molecular distillation process and the patent applied for by Evonik has been approved by Ecocert.
