France-based LMR, an International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF) subsidiary, has received the ISO 14001 certification for its environmentally responsible business practices.

An international standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization, the ISO 14001 certification relates to the effectiveness of environmental management systems in minimizing a company’s ecological footprint.

LMR, a supplier of natural ingredients to the fragrance industry, has previously earned ISO certification for the management’s quality policy linked to service and products.

The company says that the latest certification, awarded by certifying body SGS, is the manifestation of its desire to perpetuate its environmentally responsible commitment over the long term.

Describing the company’s commitment to the environment, Bernard Toulemonde, general manager at LMR told CosmeticsDesign that the company works hard to reduce environmental impact by minimizing energy consumption and waste production.

Toulemonde said that the certification was not difficult to achieve as it was a question of incorporating existing practices into a management system.

As well as recognizing an effort to comply with regulations, the certification provides validation of responsible business practices which include sustainable development and environmental respect; fundamental principles of LMR since it was founded in 1983.

LMR has also implemented GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points); procedures specific to the food industry that ensure the quality and safety of a product.

“Implementing GMP and HACCP guidelines are helping industry by certifying that our products are safe for food consumption,” said Toulemonde.

As a result, LMR is able to expand their catalogue by adding some natural ingredients now available for food flavors, such as orange, blackcurrant, beeswax and jasmine.
