Beiersdorf will be working with emulsion and foam specialist bubbles and beyond to develop a range of gentle cleansing products for skin and hair.

The start up company specialises in developing new liquids, emulsions and foams for many industries including cosmetics, industrial applications such as surface cleaning and lifestyle applications such as toys.

Liepzig-based bubbles and beyond claims that its technology will help Beiersdorf create products that gently but efficiently clean sensitive areas.

The two companies have already worked together on a pilot study to investigate the potential of the partnership, which resulted in the development of a solvent-free nail varnish remover.

“Beiersdorf is our partner of choice to prove the broad application potential of our technology and our capabilities in the field of environment friendly, gentle chemistry,” said managing director Dr Rainer Surkow.

Develop technologies for consumer goods market

In addition, the partnership is a way for the company to improve its offerings aimed at the consumer goods market, where Beiersdorf is one of the reigning giants.

“Above all, the collaboration allows us to extend our expertise to consumer goods – an area where we can benefit from Beiersdorf’s outstanding track record,” Surkow added.

For Beiersdorf, the move is part of what head of research centre Prof Dr Klaus-Peter Wittern calls the ‘open innovation philosophy’.

The idea is to benefit from the innovative ideas that flexible start ups can bring to the personal care behemoth in the development of new products.

“The knowledge and expertise of our 450 in house scientists combined with the flexibility and innovation of a start-up like bubbles and beyond provide us with excellent opportunities,” Wittern said.
