International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) will showcase its second collaboration with the French National School for Decorative Arts (ENSAD) to celebrate the links between fashion and fragrance.

Taking place on 18 June at Centquatre in Paris, this event recognizes the close ties between the fashion and fragrance industry. It gives students in their final year of fashion design at ENSAD the opportunity to develop a fragrance to compliment their fashion collection.

Fashion and fragrance is a potent mix

The event will showcase 12 collections and 12 fragrances through a fashion show. Each scent was created to reflect the inspiration behind the collections, portraying the way in which fragrance can compliment fashion.

With collaborations between fashion and fragrance houses very common, this program between IFF and ENSAD aims to prepare young designers more fully for their future careers.

Recent years have seen a rise in the importance of the fashion designer in the fragrance industry. This year’s Fragrance Foundation FiFi awards saw Marc Jacobs go into the ‘hall of fame’ for his role in creating many successful perfume collaborations.

Fragrance Foundation Executive Director, Mary Ellen Lapsansky has previously told Cosmetics Design that the iconic nature of individual fashion designers was more enduring than that of celebrities. Collaborations between fashion and fragrance therefore remain very important to the industry.

Fragrance development managers from the global fragrance company IFF worked closely with the students in the creative process behind each fragrance. The company has strong links with the fashion and fragrance collaborations, having previously launched Jil Sander Sport for Women and Flower Bomb by Viktor and Rolf, among others.

ENSAD is a university for the arts, offering a 5 year curriculum which brings its diploma-based studies in line with the European system of MA degrees.

This event is said to be a useful opportunity for fashion students to display their talent before an audience of important industry decision makers as well as a chance for the industry to keep in tune with new emerging talent for the fashion and fragrance world.
