Melatime can prolong a tan up to two weeks after exposure, according to Spanish company Lipotec.

The tanning accelerator is a palmitoyl tripeptide that speeds up the production of melanin in the skin under UV exposure. The ingredient does not directly tan the skin, but works with the sun to maximize the colour of the user.

Elena Canadas, spokesperson for Lipotec told CosmeticsDesign that the ingredient can be included in sun care formulations such as emulsions, milks or creams where a tanning boosting effect is desired.

She also said that Melatime is recommended for after-sun products to maintain a longer lasting tan.
