Technology company Modiface has released five cosmetic makeover applications for the Apple iPhone, allowing consumers to try out new looks without any physical effort.

These new applications, which Modiface claims have stemmed from the success of their websites, allow the user to take a picture of themselves which can then be automatically updated with ‘beauty simulations’.

The applications include ‘new beauty’, which removes wrinkles and age spots on the user’s picture and the ‘weight mirror’, which simulates weight loss of up to 50 pounds. Users can also experiment with new hair colours, styles and make-up using three other applications.

Innovative technology

The company has used new technology such as facial recognition and calibration techniques which allow for an instantaneous and realistic transformation.

“With Modiface’s new applications for iPhones, device owners can take pictures and gain realistic visualizations in a variety of beauty areas. All our applications are fully automatic, requiring no manual calibration. Just snap a photo and let the application do the work”, said Dr Parham Aarabi, founder and CEO of Modiface.

The program has taken a significant step in maximizing its reach through the internet. As well as being developed for the iPhone, it can be used as a ‘widget’ application and can be accessed through popular social networking sites and beauty, tanning and weight loss blogs.

Potentially a successful marketing tool

This new product is the latest to exploit a growing market for ‘virtual makeover’ applications.

In January of this year EZFace launched a ‘virtual mirror’ which allowed consumers to try colour cosmetics before buying in the shop. Sega and Shiseido have also collaborated on ‘Project Beauty’, a virtual make-up artist developed for Nintendo DS.

This new concept of ‘virtual beauty’ is said to have powerful potential as a marketing tool since it allows consumers to experiment with a wide range of beauty products before buying.

Modiface has said that its new applications for the iPhone are based upon direct research in consultation with plastic surgeons, weight loss clinicians and colour cosmeticians.
