UK-based Freeman Technology has launched two new accessories for its FT4 Powder Rheometer, providing automatic testing of powder compacts.

One of the new functions for the equipment is a hardness tester, which measures the strength of the powder compact throughout a range of different positions.

The equipment in turn delivers feedback about the hardness and uniformity - properties that the company says are related to the flow and bulk of the unpressed powder.

Defining the ease of powder transfer

The second accessory enables the automatic assessment of ‘payoff’, which defines the ease with which the powder can be transferred from the compact to the applicator.

Adding to the flexibility of the equipment, the accessory also means that the applied stress and shear rate can be varied for each test, representing a range of applications and different product types, the company claims.

Likewise it also stressed that both accessories benefit from a vacuum base on the FT4, which allows the compact to be held in position without the need for potentially damaging and intrusive fixings.

Aiming for greater consumer satisfaction

Ultimately the updated technology helps towards the development of a product with high consumer satisfaction and useage ratings, essential to the success of such products in an intensely competitive environment.

The company says that ultimately the newly updated equipment can now provide Q&A specialists, process engineers and formulators with an invaluable tool for automated shear testing, dynamic flowability and bulk property measurements.

Based in Worcestershire, England, Freeman Technology, specialises in technology that measures the flow properties of powders for any industry or manufacturers of powdered products.
