Cremer Care has developed a vegetable alternative to petroleum jelly for natural cosmetics manufacturers.

The German company claims the new ingredient, Cremerlin, has the same properties as petroleum jelly and therefore broadens the palette for natural cosmetic formulators unable to resort to petrolatum.

Replacing petrolatum

Hailed as “a worldwide novelty”, Cremerlin was developed by Bernd Brinkmann of Walter Rau, a subsidiary of the Cremer Group and will be presented for the first time at the ‘in cosmetics’ trade show in Munich at the end of the month.

Brinkmann said: “Relying on fossil oil as the basis of petrolatum is definitively not up-to-date anymore. All the more we are glad that after exactly 150 years of using this oil gel, we have found a vegetable alternative.”

Functions and features

Like petroleum jelly, Cremerlin can be used in a variety of beauty products including lipsticks, hand lotions and creams.

Cremer Care spokesperson Philipp Knaup told CosmeticsDesign.com the product has the same features as petrolatum including oxidative stability, occlusivity and no crystallisation. He said Cremerlin is also odourless and colourless.

Aimed at manufacturers of natural cosmetics, Cremerlin responds to the need for more effective and sustainable natural ingredients

“With this worldwide unique vegetable product we fully meet all those expectations,” said business unit manager Patrick Knüppel.
