Chemicals giant Dow Corning will unveil a series of ingredients and technologies that focus on naturals, anti-ageing, hair care and sun care at the forthcoming In-Cosmetics show.

This year the show will be held in Munich, April 21 – 23, and as one of the biggest international events of its kind, it has become a popular platform for new technology and ingredient launches.

Dow Corning is one of the many major industry players exhibiting at the event, where it will be demonstrating how its new silicone based formulations tap into current industry trends.

“The market is showing an increased interest in anti-ageing products, greater use of natural ingredients, broader demand for products offering sun protection as well as innovative solutions for hair protection,” said Stephen Gosney, global beauty care industry director for Dow Corning.

Silicon Organic Elastomer Blends

Integral to the showcase will be the company’s new Silicone Organic Elastomer Blends, which are said to provide performance-enhancing qualities and versatility for a wide variety of personal care formulations.

Dow Corning will demonstrate a range of its new silicone formulations on the stand, showing formulators how built-in organic compatibility makes it easier to create products with a distinct powdery feel, unique to silicone elastomers.

One of the highlights of the silicone range is the SW-8005 C30 Resin Wax, which offers performance and sensory capabilities for a range of colour cosmetics and skin care products.

Benefits of the formulation include texture, transfer resistance, colour intensity, gloss and coverage, wash-off resistance and ease of formulation, the company says.

Technologically advanced sun care ingredients

Sun care ingredients have become increasingly technologically advanced in recent years, and the company says that the silicones it produces are helping to form part of this trend.

Its latest range of sun care silicones is said to provide substantivity, sebum control, resistance to wash-off and, most importantly, enhanced SPF, as well as giving specific texture qualities.

Hair protection is also a growing trend for hair care manufacturers to clue in on and has led to the development of 5-7113 Silicone Quat Microemulsion and 2-8566 Amino Fluid – ingredients that have been designed to offer heat and colour protection.

To round off the new silicones portfolio, Dow Corning will tap into the naturals market with the unveiling of its HY03050 Soy Wax and HY-3051 Soy Wax Blend, ingredients that are said to provide sensory characteristics as well as being a natural alternative to petrolatum for a range of hair and skin care products.

The company will be unveiling and demonstrating all of these products at stand H400, at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre.
