Conference focuses on animal testing alternatives for cosmetics
The Chemical Heritage Foundation will be hosting “Spotlight on Ingredients: In Vitro Alternatives Forum” in Philadelphia on October 23-24.
Latest EU regulatory developments
Experts from Europe and representatives from US companies and trade bodies will inform attendees of the latest developments in EU regulation and how the industry is responding.
Several major EU regulations are on the eve of full implementation including the ban on animal testing, REACH and amendments to the Cosmetics Directive.
The requirements of these legislative moves, their impact on the industry and the steps being taken to adapt to them will all be covered at the two day event.
Special attention will be paid to animal testing alternatives.
In particular, discussion topics will cover the state of alternative testing methods, the policy and consumer demand for them, and how to move forward with in vitro testing programs.

“We intend that participants will walk away with practical information on the requirements of the non-animal testing bans; activities being undertaken by international organizations to meet these requirements; the actual testing strategies and how animal data can be used in risk assessment,” said Dr. Rodger Curren, the president of event co-sponsor the Institute for In Vitro Sciences.
Among the notable speakers at the event are Vera Rogiers of the EU’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP) and Laura Gribaldo from the European Center for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM).
