DSM has developed a natural ingredient for sensitive and irritated skin using the defensive power of alpine plants.

The nutritional specialists created the ingredient from extracts of Swiss alpine plants using a cultivation process designed to maximize their potency.

Cultivation process

To encourage the plants to develop efficient protective factors DSM exposed them to strong temperature fluctuations and high UV radiation.

The method called Alpaflor has already been employed in the creation of various DSM ingredients such as Edelweiss and Nectapure.

Now the company has added another ingredient to the list. ABI Complex AO is produced from the plants Artemisia umbelliformis Lam., m Buddleja davidii and Peucedanum ostruthium L.

DSM said the plants are well-known in traditional medicine. This enables the ingredient to tap into the growing appeal of ancient wisdom and authenticity in cosmetics.

ABI Complex AO is also Ecocert certified helping it to stand out on the shelves among other natural products.

Potential applications

Marketed as a treatment for irritated and sensitive skin, the ingredient is suitable for a wide range of cosmetic applications.

These include after-shave balms or lotions, sun care creams, day and night care products and cleansing and purifying preparations.
