Rexam has opened a new centre of technical expertise, giving its personal care division a dedicated facility aimed at enhancing its quality of service and packaging product innovation.

The site, situated in Simandre, in the Burgundy region of France, will be focused on dispensing systems and make-up packaging and will develop cutting edge expertise in injection, surface treatment and decoration.

The facility covers 20,700 square metres, which includes a variety of equipment, shared amongst divisions that have their own specific areas of dedication.

Producing 2,000 tons a year

This means a total of 76 presses and 80 moulding machines that contribute to the production of more than 2,000 tons of plastic packaging each year.

Likewise, the decorative capabilities are backed up by UV lacquering, stamping, screen printing, hot stamping lines, laser machines and two vacuum metallizing lines, designed to meet the need for new and more sophisticated packaging designs.

Rexam says that the new facility has been built and developed to meet the requirements of its worldwide customer base and the specific needs of individual markets and consumer tastes.

Two distinct divisions

The facility is divided into two distinct divisions: one for dispensing systems, and one for make-up packaging – a distinction which the company says will help it to better meet the unique requirements of each category.

The dispensing division is focused on providing solutions for the fragrance and cosmetic categories, serving leading players worldwide, and specialising in complete dispensing solutions that are assembled in synergy with other Rexam production sites.

The make-up division has been developed to provide a complete set of turnkey solutions for manufacturers in this category.

Decorative specialisation

This division specialises in the injection of different materials, lacquering, and metallizing techniques, capabilities which make it one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in the world, Rexam claims.

"Today, managing a packaging project is one of the keys to success," said Robert Brands, manager of the company's personal care division.

"Our new organisation allows us to strengthen both our skills and our competitive advantage due to our position as a provider of excellence in different markets."
