KitoZyme has updated its range of vegetal-based active ingredients
with two new additions that claim to deliver the soft feel of
silicone

Formulators currently face the challenge of providing natural consumers with the same level of functionality and feel they are used to in synthetic products. Natural silicone feel To help them achieve this, Belgium-based KitoZyme has launched KiOsmetine-S 1000 and 1500, which both aim to give water-rich formulations a natural silicone feel. Both ingredients are designed to improve the sensory properties of hair and skin care formulations. KitoZyme's UK distributor Adina Cosmetic Ingredients said they form a non-occlusive protective film to help leave the skin feeling smooth and the hair silky and soft. Differentiating the ingredients, KiOsmetine-S 1500 leaves a more delicate film and is marketed as a solution for reducing the tackiness and greasy feel of formulations. Charles Taylor, technical manager at Adina Cosmetic Ingredients, told CosmeticsDesign.com that the products are ideal for natural manufacturers who are wary about using silicones. He said formulators often feel forced to opt for synthetic ingredients but these products provide an effective natural alternative. BASF recently launched its own alternative to silicone, a multifunctional polymer for rinse-off hair care products Silicones normally deliver the soft feeling of a conditioner after drying but BASF claims that its new product, Luviquat Sensation, now provides this effect along with the conditioning role normally played by polymers.
