International star Jackie Chan has branched out from his typecast
roles of martial arts expert and global film star and is focusing
on enjoying the same success in the organic skin care market with
the launch of his cosmetics range, The Jackie Chan Skin Care Line.

The star has a wide portfolio of lucrative business ventures, including a restaurant chain, clothing line and fitness club. The skin care range is the latest venture to emerge from Cosmoprof Asia, the largest and most prestigious international beauty trade event in Asia.

A statement published on Chan's official website stated: 'In keeping with Jackie's history of preserving and protecting the environment, the products are composed of natural ingredients which are non-polluting and all packaging is made using recycled materials.'

Sales of natural and organic cosmetics are projected to surpass the €1 billion mark for the first time this year, growing by an average of 20 per cent a year, according to market researcher Organic Monitor Organicmonitor.com.

The organic cosmetic market is developing rapidly, with more and more celebrity endorsements moving into the spotlight. Stella McCartney has recently picked up on the trend and has announced the Spring 2007 launch of her exclusively organic skin care line, 'Care' that targets the premium market.

Through a partnership with Maggie Chu, Chan has initially launched the skin care line in Hong Kong. However, there may be future plans for the range to be accessible to the global market.

Chan is to become one of the few Asian brands to have a pan-Asian presence as opposed to Western brands, as according to market research company, Organic Monitor, the natural and organic cosmetics market is dominated by these brands.

'Lack of organic ingredients in Asia discourage Asian producers from manufacturing organic cosmetics. Indeed, the lack of production in Asia led a Hungarian company to produce Jackie Chan's skin care range.' Tina Gill, a spokesperson for Organic Monitor told CosmeticsDesign.

Given the prevalence of celebrity endorsements within the fragrance sector of the cosmetics market, the new line may herald a new direction for skin care manufacturers willing to capitalise on a famous name.
