In response to growing regulatory legislation on a global level the
organizers of this year's HBA event will hold the first Regulatory
Summit, a day long seminar that will include a panel of
international speakers providing industry-driven insight into the
area.

Held on September 13, the event will form part of the annual HBA expo - a leading industry events on the international calendar, held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York.

The summit will include international speakers and panelists who will provide insights into the latest issues relating to legislation, scientific technologies and the consequent impact of regulation for the personal care, cosmetic and related packaging industries.

Show director Jack Gonzalez refers the current evolution of regulation within the industry as being a 'revolution' that is redefining safety of personal care products.

"This revolution has been created and influenced, in part, by pressure from consumer groups, rapid technological innovation, and changing regulatory legislation in California, the European Union and the Far East," Gonzalez said.

The summit will start off with a keynote speech from Bruce Ames, entitled 'Maximizing Health: The World of Risks in Perspective.'

Ames is a professor at the Graduate School of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of California at Berkley and is also recognized for developing the Ames Mutagenicity Test, a simple, inexpensive test that screens for environmental carcinogens and mutagens.

Other presentations will be given by experts on current and emerging global regulations, toxicologists, legal regulatory experts, as well as companies providing services that have already met both the new and the anticipated requirements of the regulations, as well as industry consultants and experts from The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association.

Summit topics include: The Toxic Ingredient Issue; REACH: The Forthcoming EU Chemicals Regulation, Regulatory Issues and Trends Impacting the US Cosmetics Industry; Developing a Global Regulatory Strategy; Restricted Substances in Consumer Goods; Animal Testing Legislation Update; Regulatory Changes for Personal Care & Cosmetic Packaging; and Nanomaterials in Personal Care Products and FDA Regulation.

The summit will culminate in an interactive moderated discussion involving a total 15 speakers and delegates, where questions are invited from the audience regarding the issues raised by the summit, as well as anything that may not have been covered.
