Reflecting the growing trend towards multi-functional targeted sun
protection, UK-based retail giant Tesco has launched a
comprehensive range of new sun care products aimed at a wide
variety of individuals.

Growing awareness of the dangers of exposure to the sun is forcing sun care producers to launch increasingly effective products that cater for the needs of every type of skin type - from the very fairest of children's skin to darker skin that does not require such high protection.

Tesco has chosen the start of the European summer and holiday period to launch its new ranges, which include a low-budget 4-star UVA protection range, individual sachets, a facial sun protection range, 5-star UVA kids sun protection sprays and a self tanning range.

Falling in line with the EU's new requirement for sun care producers to clearly mark the UVA protection properties of specific products, Tesco is launching two new products that are being marketed on the strength of their UVA protection.

The first is the company's No Frills range of sunscreens, which is now being marketed on the strength of its 4-star UVA protection. Although awareness of UVB damage is widespread, the dangers of UVA damage is only now coming to the fore, forcing many manufacturers to highlight the fact that its sunscreens offer protection for both types of UV rays.

Falling in line with this, the company has also chosen to launch a new range of children's sun care lotions featuring 5-star UVA protection. The products are packaged in spray bottles with pump handles for easy application and come in SPF25 and 30.

Tesco has also extended its mainstay Suncare range to include a clear formula spray, on-the-go sachets and a 400 ml family-sized bottle of SPF15 lotion. The emphasis for this range has been on more functional and aesthetically-pleasing packaging to enhance the range.

Tesco says that reason for the redesign is to emphasise the protection for the individual products. All the products are now clearly labelled as having UVA and UVB filters and now the SPF is a central focus of the labelling.

With the face constantly exposed to sun, consumers are increasingly aware of the importance of comprehensive protection for this area of the body. This trend has inspired Tesco to launch a facial sun protection line as part of its Finest sun care range.

Available in SPF 15 and 25 and with 5-star UVA rating, the Finest Facial range is skin tone in colour and contains added moisturiser to help keep skin supple and protect it from the drying effects of the sun.

The Finest sun care range has also been extended to include Finest Self Tan, a new collection of products that combine creatine, alpha lipoic anacid and Canadian willoherb to provide antioxidant properties and help fight back signs of ageing.

The Finest Self Tan range contains five products, a pre-tan exfoliator, pre-tan moisturiser, a self-tan spray and lotion, as well as a body glow lotion.
