Croda readies new ingredients to be unveiled at In-Cosmetics
platform to debut a host of new ingredients that concentrate on
providing added functionality for sun care, hair care and skin care
formulations.
The company has chosen one of the biggest events in the European personal care industry's calendar to promote a portfolio of ingredients that reflect manufacturers desires for innovative ingredients that are easy to formulate.
With increased demands for functionality of ingredients, ingredients are becoming complex to formulate, which is why all of the ingredients have been carefully developed for maximum compatability.
Super Sterol Liquid is described as an exceptional emollient that combines a high affinity with the skin. This affinity means that it is capable of imitating and augmenting many of the functions carried out by the skin's lipids.
Lipids play an important part in the retention of moisture in the skin, which consequently means that they play an important part in maintaining skin health and to prevent a host of dry skin-related conditions.
According to Croda, Super Sterol Lipids is able to penetrate the stratum corneum and play an integral role in maintaining and improving skin barrier function. This is backed up by clinical data that shows the ingredient is able to repair dry and cracked lips and improve the condition of dry and cracked skin on hands.
Croda says that the ingredient will be appropriate for a host of intensive moisturings skin care products, including hand creams, lip balms and skin care products for extreme environmental conditions.
Ingredients that increase the dispersion of personal care products are becoming increasingly necessary due to the complexity of formulations. This is a particular problem for sun care products and one that the company is tackling with its Crodasperse dispersing agent.
Sun care products need to optimise the dispersal of dense ingredients such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to achieve maximum UV protection at all times, which is a problem that the ingredient tackles.
Likewise, the company says that Crodasperse can be used to create colour cosmetics with high pigment loadings using low shear mixings.
"Crodasperse represents a real innovation in terms of the unique dispersing technology it utilises," said Caroline Myers, company spokesperson.
"It helps improve formulation stability and prolong the dispersion of pigments whilst allowing higher particulate loadings with lower viscosity," she added.
Another sun care ingredient is Optisol, which aims to provide advanced UV protection. It delivers broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection, without the risk of skin whitening. It is also said to generate 95 per cent fewer free radicals than other inorganic absorbers, as well as serving an effective free radical scavenger.
And something to wash off the sunscreen? How about Cromage Passiflora 30, a naturally-derived physical exfoliant derived from Amazon sourced passion fruit seeds. The product is said to create a more radiant, smoother complexion, by removing dead skin cells and is also effective to prevent uneven tanning.
The company is also including two hair care ingredients - a conditioner and a styling agent for curls - products that meet formulators demands for increasingly targeted hair care products.
Lustraplex is a quarternary conditioning agent designed to enhance shampoos, especially clear formulations. It has been formulated to maintain hair's luster during shampooing and to condition without build-up. The company says its tests show that the ingredient outperforms other quarternary agents, even after 3 shampoo cycles.
And finally, Mirustyle CP is a curl perfecting agent designed to 'put the spring back into curls' and chases a fast-growing market. The styling polymer, which is a quarternary modified cellulose derivative, is said to provide curl retention, flexibility and frizz control.
"In 2005 one in twelve new hair styling products launched were curl related, proving that the curl care market is set to continue as a growth area," said Myers.
