A range of very high active content emulsifiable vegetable oils for
use in a wide variety of personal care applications has been
launched by UK supplier Seatons.

The company, which is a division of Croda, says the Seaqua oils are 'touch' modified, which means the products remain oil rich and retain all the emollience, skin feel and character of individual vegetable oils in an emulsifiable form - something that has been historically hard to achieve and has now been licensed by the company.

"In creating this line of ingredients, we saw a need for a range of oils that could be sold without the need for emulsifiers," said Richard Eyles, company spokesperson.

"The benefits to manufacturers include simplicity of formulating, the ingrdient is that self-emulsifying and that the finished products retain many of the properties of the original base oil."

Looking at the formulation in more detail, Eyles explained that that there were two aspects that made the process easier.

"Firstly, developing a formulation should be easier as there is no need to develop an emulsification package for the oil. Secondly, in production terms there should be less ingredients and the oil could be incorporated as part of a cold mix."

The bottom line is that initial feedback indicates that the ingredient line is highly cost effective.

The Seaqua range incorporates six different vegetable-based ingredients: avocado, corn, arachis (peanut), apricot kernel, fractioned coconut and olive oil.

Each of the ingredients making up the product line up has functionality making appropriate for specific finished products. Seaqua Arachis, for example, has been formulated into a glossy hair oil which is said to give body and increased rinseability to hair.
