McIntyre tackles hair colour retention problem

McIntyre Group, a cosmetics ingredients company headquartered in
the US and UK, has launched four new pastilled conditioning
concentrates aimed at US, Latin American, Japanese and European
hair care formulations, reports Simon Pitman.

Said to impart a full range of conditioning qualities to hair care formulations, two of the concentrates have also been developed using Dow Corning ingredients that are specifically formulated to help preserve colour retention for colour-treated hair - an issue that can often present major challenges for hair care formulators.

"The Mackconditioner concentrates incorporate pre-dispersed ingredients that are typically difficult to use in an easy-to-handle pastille, thereby reducing heating and cooling cycles in manufacturing," said Mark Miller, director of sales & marketing for the McIntyre Group.

"With Mackconditioner, the personal care formulator can focus on creating the unique, marketable product characteristics of a finished conditioner or styling aid since these are highly effective concentrates to start with," added Miller.

McIntyre claims that each of the four Mackconditioner concentrates, which include Essential; Brite; Natural; and Ultra, offer combability, detangling and wet/dry combing properties.

More specifically the Brite formulation incorporates Dow Corning's new Amino Functional Silicone, which is said to impart superior shine while extending the life of permanent hair color treatments. Only launched last month, the silicone was specifically developed for a broad range of hair care products, including styling agents, shampoos and conditioners.

Similarly, the Ultra formulation is a premium hair conditioning concentrate that has been developed using Dow Corning's Patented New Silicone Quat offering maximum hair color retention. Launched in April last year, the ingredient was specifically developed for use in rinse-off and leave-on hair conditioning formulations.

All four concentrates are now available in commercial quantities worldwide, but the company said that the focus is likely to be the US and European markets.
