Laboratoires Sérobiologiques says that the move towards more
natural ingredients has helped to drive the latest ingredients that
it unveiled at the Personal Care Ingredients Europe show, held in
Paris last week reports Simon Pitman.

LS, which is the active ingredients division of Cognis Care Chemicals, says that in line with the groups general focus of wellness its latest drive has meant going further than just concentrating on natural-source ingredients.

The company claims that consideration of the environment has been apparent at every stage of the cultivation and manufacturing, which is what it has tried to carry out through its partnership with local community groups on its LS Argan programme.

The company says that this programme has now resulted in the development of three cosmetic active ingredients derived from the argan tree, reflecting LS's belief that ecological farming, fair trade and sustainability can and should play a major role in the development of new ingredients.

The three ingredients, all for skincare applications, include Araganyl, which is based on pholyphenols from the leaves to give anti-ageing properties; Argatensyl, which is made up from proteins from the fruit to give a skin tightening effect and Lipofructyl Argan, which is made up from argan oil to provide skin, hair and nail care properties.

Another highlight at the company's booth was ProDEJine LS 9784, a new active ingredient of biotechnological origin, being isolated and purified from yeast. It acts on the dermo-epidermal junction (DEJ) to improve the cohesion between the dermis and the epidermis, strengthening the structure of the skin.

A clinical test has demonstrated that the ProDEJine LS 9784 has a significant anti-wrinkle effect around the eyes. The product is said to be suitable for use in anti-aging face care products and care products for mature skin.

Additionally, LS exhibited the new products in its Active Powders range, Firmness, Moist, Whiteness and Purity, each of which supports a specific cosmetic claim. The Active Powders range is based on a technology that enables water-soluble actives to be incorporated into anhydrous make-up formulations, including cosmetic products such as loose or pressed powders, compacts and lipsticks.
