New packaging closure cuts out need for preservatives
The DEFI system (exclusive intact formula device) was designed in conjunction with Avène Dermatological Laboratories, part of the Pierre Fabre Group, and promises to protect the formula from bacteria that could enter after the product has been opened by the consumer.
The majority of cosmetic products contain preservatives or use preserving systems to protect against the proliferation of bacteria within the product and ultimately infection; but, according to Promens, DEFI guarantees product sterility during use.
Avène has used the DEFI closure system for its Tolérance Extreme range, a preservative, fragrance and surfactant free line of skin care products
Closure enables sterility
In addition, the new closure system allows for sterility in larger size tubes, when previously it would only be possible through monodose and single use packages.
According to Promens, this ensures consumers have the most practical solution in hand.
The DEFI closure system is made up of four parts, including a flexible membrane that moves when pressure is applied to the tube, returning to its place after the pressure is released.
This helps to seal off the package and combines with a lid which is perfectly sized to the cap and protects the formulation completely from the external environment.
Luxury pearl jar
DEFI’s launch follows shortly after Promens released a new cosmetics jar for the luxury market.
The new Perla jar comes in two sizes - 15ml for speciality formulations such as eye creams, or 50 ml for facial skincare.
Perla is a globe shaped jar, the bottom half in glass and the top section made up of a luxury looking white plastic which can be decorated with hot stamping, tampo printing and lacquering.
