Symrise launches child-safe skin care ingredient
In response to the ban by the Danish government against the use of propyl and butyl parabens in cosmetic and personal care products intended for use by children under three, Symrise has launched its alternative, Hydrolite 6.
The Germany-based company claims that Hydrolite 6 qualifies as an alternative to preservatives and makes the use of controversial preservatives such as parabens unnecessary.
Paraben-free skin care for children
Ravikumar Pillai, global product director Actives Symrise Life Essentials, explained: “The initiative started by the Danish government on paraben-free skin care products for children confirms that we pursue the right path with our high quality ingredients that support health and well-being.”
“Owing to state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques and our employees’ expertise, we develop cutting-edge cosmetic ingredients such as Hydrolite6. According to the company, hydrolite 6 boosts the preservative efficacy of mild organic acids such as potassium sorbate and dehydroacetate, making the use of parabens unnecessary.
The Symrise ingredient may, for example, be combined with mild organic acids like potassium sorbate and dehydroacetate to offer a skin-friendly alternative. Symrise says that formulators may also use low levels of other preservatives to better conserve and protect their products.
Sensitivity and protection
The Danish government’s initiative toban parabens from lotions and other children’s skin care products has been triggered by increasing awareness to the sensitivity of children's skin and the protection it requires.
Symrise states awareness of the importance of ingredients that are safe to health is ispreading to consumers in other countries too.
Hydrolite 6 complies with the cosmetic provisions from the US, Europe, Japan and China, including the new Danish regulations, and Symrise says the active ingredient may be added to lotions, creams, and hair care products.
The ingredient is soluble in water and many cosmetic esters, and remains stable even in extreme temperatures and pH values, not affecting the stability of emulsions.
