A leading events series for the beauty and personal care industry, in-cosmetics, is gearing up to host the 2017 edition of its Formulation Summit next month.

To be held in London, this year’s edition is entitled ‘Biotransforming Beauty - Formulating with Nature’. It considers the latest global trends and products related to the microbiome, bioavailability and similar.

It is set to give a particular focus to trends from Korea in this field, according to organisers Reed Exhibitions. These are trends that are “enabling the personal care industry to lead the way in providing products that tackle the needs of the consumer while safeguarding the planet”, they say.

Microbiome

The in-cosmetics Formulation Summit, an event particularly targeted at formulation and cosmetics science experts within the industry, is set to consider this hot topic.

Organisers say that key questions, such as  'how to preserve products and yet keep the product microbiome-friendly?', are set to be addressed, alongside explanations about the role of biofilms and latest scientific methods supporting claims and visualising skin's microbiota.

The relationship between the microbiome and healthy skin has in recent months been tipped as having huge potential for the beauty and personal care industry.

The food industry has long been marketing products - yoghurts, drinks - with claims that they can balance or promote healthy gut bacteria. Now this trend, on the back of increasing research into the diversity of the microbiome of the skin, is moving into skin care.

The microbiome of the skin and its potential within beauty and personal care is a central topic in the programme.

Across the summit’s programme, the lineup of expert speakers includes: Prof. Michael Wilson, Professor of Microbiology, University College London; Allison Krebs-Bensch, CEO & Co-founder, BeBe & Bella; Dr. Cécile Clavaud, Research Engineer, Open Research, L'OREAL Research & Innovation; and Abel Ureta-Vidal, Chief Executive Officer, Eagle Genomics
