British cosmetics start-up JooMo has launched the next in its series of products that claim to work with the skin’s natural microbiome: a body wash ‘that gets the skin to heal itself by mobilising the natural skin bacteria’.

Described by the company as a new preservative-free 100% natural body wash, JooMo says the launch responds to the success that met its initial facial wash products.

“We’re continuing to transform the marketplace with our latest product, and of course it’s still 100% Truly natural and preservative free. This is another step on the road to ending 21st century induced skin problems and creating a safer cosmetics industry,” asserts co-founder Linda Russell.

Microbiome spotlight

Microbiome refers to the collection of microbes - i.e. bacteria, fungi, viruses, etc. - that live in or on human cells.

The relationship between the microbiome and healthy skin has in recent months been described by commentators as ‘the next microbiome frontier’, with huge potential tipped for the beauty and personal care industry.

The food industry has long been marketing products - yoghurts, drinks - with claims that they can balance or promote healthy gut bacteria. Now this trend, on the back of increasing research into the diversity of the microbiome of the skin, is moving into skin care.

JooMo began its venture into preservative-free formulation with the launch of its stability system called SaponinJ, which it claims allows it produce 100% natural personal care products, free from synthetic preservatives.

Dedicated technology

JooMo says that its MIRR Skin bacteria technology is now used in every JooMo product, based on ‘state-of-the-art’ microbiological & immunological research.

JooMo Technical Director Sam Wallen Russell explains: “There has only been a limited amount of research done on skin environment and the body’s immune system responses, and only now are we beginning to understand the crucial role skin has to play in overall health.

“JooMo is pioneering a new generation of research into the complex science of skin microbiota, and we intend to change the cosmetics industry into a research based, health preserving industry, not a damaging, multi billion dollar cover up.”

The new body wash products is marketed as a 3-in-1 skin care solution, with the company saying it can be used as a cleanser, a moisturiser or for shaving, and is suitable for all ages and all skin types.
