Gallinée’s scalp care launch in the skin microbiome space
Gallinée, one of the personal care brands leading at the forefront of the skin microbiome trend, has moved into scalp care with a new range.

The brand calls the range ‘the first prebiotic range’ to gently care for hair and balance the scalp’s microbiome, and it is due for launch at the start of March.

“Traditional shampoos and conditioners may make you wash your hair more often due to the increased sebum production caused by ingredients such as traditional surfactants and sulphates,” suggests Gallinée.

The brand explains that the scalp’s microbiome plays a crucial role in the regulation of sebum, when unbalanced it can lead to itchiness, dandruff and even hair loss.

“The Gallinée Hair and Scalp Care products are enriched with a complex of prebiotic and postbiotic, alongside a groundbreaking ingredient never used before outside of Asia for hair that the Yao women (ancient Chinese village of Huangluo also known as the ‘Long Hair Village’) have been using forever: fermented rice water,” the brand says.

Why move into scalp care?

Gallinée says that the scalp’s microbiome is very different to the skin’s microbiome as the scalp is more humid, hotter and richer in lipids.

This means there’s a whole different ecology and distinct ecosystem associate with the scalp, which, the skin care player says, attracts an unique population of bacteria.

Its pH (between 4 and 5) is more acidic that the skin (your skin pH is between 4.5 and 5.5), this, Gallinée says, is why its new hair and scalp care range is formulated at pH 4.5.

“I think we will be one of the first brands to extend in that space,” founder Marie Drago explained to Cosmetics Design. “And what makes me especially happy is the results of our testing, and the fact that the products allow you to space the time between washes. Treat more, wash less!”
