Schwan Cosmetics joins Sustainable Packaging Initiative for Cosmetics
SPICE, the Sustainable Packaging Initiative for CosmEtics, has welcomed a new corporate member in Schwan Cosmetics.

SPICE was launched in May this year, a collective industry effort towards sustainable packaging that involves several major brands and suppliers.

Schwan says that its participation in this initiative “confirms its commitment to sustainable development”.

Joining the SPICE Initiative is a logical step in our path to sustainable innovation,” explains Dagmar Chlosta, Chief Market Officer Schwan Cosmetics (pictured).

What is SPICE?

The group was cofounded by L’Oréal and environmental sustainability consulting firm Quantis, and includes 12 current members.

Along with Schwan, other members include Avon Products, Clarins Group, Coty, L’Occitane en Provence, L’Oréal, LVMH, Shiseido, Sisley, as well as Cosmetic Valley (French “competitiveness cluster” for perfumes and cosmetics) and FEBEA (French Federation of Beauty Companies).

SPICE remains open to additional members, and cosmetics products manufacturers as well as cosmetics packaging suppliers can join the initiative as corporate members.

Members will work together, guided by the sustainability experts at Quantis, to develop and publish business-oriented methodologies and data to support resilient decision making to improve the environmental performance of the entire packaging value chain,” SPICE explained on its launch.

Schwan’s efforts in sustainability

According to Schwan, join SPICE allows it to assert its credentials in the area of sustainable packaging and participate in shaping the future of sustainable packaging in cosmetics.

As a beauty manufacturer, we want to provide consumers with eco-friendly products and packaging that are in line with their beliefs in a sustainable planet. This is why we invest heavily in sustainable innovation on the packaging side,” explains Chlosta, CMO.

Being part of SPICE gives us the perfect opportunity to shape the future of the beauty industry hand in hand with other cosmetics brand and suppliers and to influence product impact on the environment in a positive way”.

Based on the experience gained from SPICE, the company says it will work on developing sustainable packaging policies as well as packaging innovations.

Schwan Cosmetics is determined to define the future of colour cosmetics from a sustainable innovation point of view combining great product performance and design with a sustainable value chain,” it asserts.
