SEPPIC launches new hair and skin care actives

SEPPIC has launched two new active ingredients – Xylishine, a new hair repairing product, and Oligogeline PF, a skin protection product.

The two new ingredients have been highlighted at the recent SCC Suppliers Day in California, and are also set to showcased at in-cosmetics Asia, being held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Both ingredients have been developed using the company’s expertise in active ingredient derived from natural plant extracts.

Xylishine hair repair

The hair repair ingredient is a bio-inspired formulation that is derived from sugars from wood and a brown algae called Pelvetta canaliculata that is designed to enchance hair shine.

According to the development team, the wood sugars have a high absorption capacity, which enables effective strengthening of the cells walls, while the Pelvetta contains sugars that are vital to rehydration.

In ex vivo studies, the research team found that for rinse-off and leave-on applications, a 3% dose repairs the hair fibres, while restoring hydration of damaged hair, improving hydration in the core of the fibre by up to 30%.

Oligogeline for skin protection

Following on from the huge spike in interest for skin protection products, Oligogeline has been developed using carrageenans extracted from a red seaweed called Chondrus crispus and marine minerals.

This type of red seaweed grows at just a few metres water depth and because it is exposed to significant amounts of UV radiation at low tides, it has higher levels of carrageenans to improve water retention.

These properties translate into an extract that helps to give Oligogeline PF a distinct skin barrier that acts as a shield against pollution.

The SEPPIC development team says that results show an emulsion application containing 3% of the ingredient shows that protection is about 43% when compared to non-treated skin.
