The three key fragrance directions for next year’s autumn-winter collections look set to feature opulent winter berries, a violet revival and the ever popular oud, according to Seven Scent’s new global trends research.

The fragrance firm, which has over 25 years’ experience in the industry, was launched as a stand-alone business by PZ Cussons five years ago and predicts the three key fragrance directions in its bi-annual report.

“Autumn signals a change in mood and emotion which is reflected in our fragrance forecast,” says Kate Williams, creative perfumer for Seven Scent.

“The move towards luscious berry notes and hints of vintage florals creates a sense of vibrant vitality and colour, while the strong presence of oud for yet another season not only marks its transition to the mainstream it also brings a distinctly modern edge.”

Concepts and collections

The winter berries scent is represented by a rich blend of raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrant and icy red berries, coupled with woody accords and oriental nuances; while the violet smell combines delicate florals, beautiful woods and lush leaves. Oud, meanwhile, continues its meteoric rise according to Seven Scent.

These three trends have led the fragrance firm to also create three new fragrance concepts for different applications.

The first is ‘Organic Elements’ which is a blend of cool spices, white woods and delicate florals, and is suited to shower products.

The second, ‘Cosmic Creations’, contrasts fruits, powdery florals and sweet gourmand notes and is more suited to deodorants, hairstyling and shower ranges, as it is a modern fragrance, says Seven Scent.

Last, but by no means least, the UK firm has designed a concept suited for bar soaps, men’s grooming and shower products, which it calls ‘Romantic Renaissance’. This is a stronger fragrance and combines dark florals with warm, rich spices.

Published twice a year, Seven’s Fragrance Trends report shares regular commercial insights and forecasts which are shaped by latest developments in the fine fragrance, fashion and design sectors.
