In-cosmetics awards: The winners are…
In what is an annual tradition at the show, the Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Awards was given to Gattefossé, whilst Alban Muller took home the new Green Ingredient Award.
The Innovation Zone Awards honour the development of a novel active or functional ingredient, showcased at the show, that combines innovative science and product features in a way that demonstrates substantial benefits to manufacturers and end-users when compared to existing ingredients.
First Green prize winner
Alban Muller was awarded the green prize, in association with Organic Monitor, for its Scurvy Grass Extract, a 100% natural extract of the Scurvy Grass plant, which is rich in Vitamin C, and is designed for anti-ageing applications.
The Silver and Bronze winners in the Green Ingredient Award were Minasolve with MinaCare Pentiol Green+, a new version of pentylene glycol that is produced from renewable vegetal raw materials and Akott with Akosky Apium, a hydrosoluble celery Cell Culture extract which in vitro is efficient in stimulating pro-collagen I and III, and fibronectin.
Best Ingredient Awards
Gattefossé achieved gold for the development of Emulium Mellifera, a new generation of PEG-free emulsifier that auto-adapts to skin type and climate.
“We are naturally delighted to have won this prestigious award,” said Paula Lennon, Marketing and Innovation Director at Gattefossé.
“A huge amount of research has gone into developing Emulium Mellifera and we believe that it has the potential to revolutionise the skin care industry in the future.”
Runners up to Gattefossé with Silver and Bronze Awards, were Induchem for Redensyl, a new hair growth galvaniser which targets the hair follicles’ stem cells and Lipotec for Argirelox peptide, which is directed at reducing expression lines by modulating muscle contraction.
Beiersdorf Innovation Pitch winners
Also taking place at the show this year, in its own backyard, was the Beiersdorf Open Innovation Pitch, which is part of the continuing Pearlfinder initiative.
The Germany-based skin care maker was opening up the chance for companies to pitch their innovative ideas with the chance of developing and working on these in the future, with the goal of inspiring innovation.
Out of 66 online entries, 23 were chosen to pitch during the show, and three winners emerged: Ashland, Croda and KPT.
Ashland was praised by the jury for a promising idea relating to the Sun Care category. Croda impressed the judges with its unique concept which has potential for application in several categories, especially Body and Sun Care.
Beiersdorf judges also detected high potential in the idea of the exhibitor Korea Particle Technology (KPT), and its innovative ingredient technology which the cosmetics manufacturer considers valuable for its selective cosmetics business.
“Innovation is a key factor for our company’s success,” Dr. Ulrich Schmidt, member of the executive board at Beiersdorf.
“With our strong brands we want to become the number one skin care company in our relevant markets but we can only achieve this with the innovative input from external partners. We are happy to call this Innovation Pitch a great success. The overall quality and potential of the submitted ideas exceeded our expectations.”
