BASF to unveil aroma chemicals portfolio at WPC

BASF has announced it is to exhibit a line of aroma chemical products and roll out a global launch of L-Menthol and DL-Menthol at the World Perfumery Congress next week in Connecticut.

The product range is said to include Geraniol, Citronellol and Linalool, which are part of the company’s Citral value chain.

The WPC event, held every two years, is a networking forum that attracts more than 700 fragrance industry professionals, their suppliers and marketers to address and discuss solutions to the industry’s latest challenges.

Global launch

According to the company, menthol will be available in the third quarter of 2012, in which the company hopes to secure global supply of with the opening of a large production plant in Germany.  

L-menthol is the world’s largest-selling aroma and is essential in many personal and skin care products as well as perfumes,” says a company spokesperson.

BASF has developed a unique production process based on the core intermediate Citral, which will enable the company to supply large quantities of an extremely pure product.

The combination of high quality, global reach, local support and reliability of supply will revolutionize the worldwide availability of menthol products,” says aroma chemical unit vice president Miguel Peña.

Pyranol

In addition to the launch of menthol products, BASF is also set to feature Pyranol which the company says is a valuable harmonizer and can be used in all perfume types without interfering with the basic accord of the fragrance – a substantive building block with high stability.

Other recent unveilings

At this year's in-cosmetics event in Barcelona, BASF's Care Chemicals division unveiled a portfolio of new synthetic mica-based pigments with high chromaticity said to be suitable for various formulations to help create a flawless, natural appearance of the skin.

Its Beauty Care Solutions division also showcased two of its latest cosmetic actives addressing both major skin care issues – skin ageing and skin pigmentation. Both ingredients were put forward as being of botanical origin, complying with major international cosmetic regulations and meeting the requirements of cosmetic manufacturers.
