A webinar is being held by Intertek summarising and reviewing the new EU cosmetics regulation coming into force in 2013 to update cosmetics companies on how to go about complying with it by the end of 2012.

The previous EU directive 76/768EEC was superseded in January 2010 to simplify the rules and procedures related to marketing products in line with claims, as well as to harmonise the member states involved. This was to ensure greater consumer safety and better protection.

The revised cosmetics regulations will affect all businesses manufacturing, importing, using, or distributing cosmetics products or ingredients in the EU market.

In line with this, regulation changes and data requirements that will be mandatory to selling all cosmetics products and ingredients will be covered in the webinar.

The mandated data requirements will include generating Product Information Files (PIFs) which will be required for all cosmetics and personal care products that are to be sold to the general public.

Procedure changes

Under the previous directive, to launch a new cosmetic product in different EU countries, manufacturers have to notify the national authorities in each country where it will be sold. This is being replaced by a single electronic EU notification system meaning this information is provided just once.

Topics to be covered will include historical context of the new cosmetics regulation; an overview of the regulation; requirements and timelines for implementation; safety assessment and notification requirements; and the approach to compliance after 2013.

Taking place on Tuesday 6th December 2011, it is a one-hour webinar in English commencing at 10am EST and 4pm CET, aimed at professionals involved in product management, development and regulation.
