Borealis introduces clearer transparent packaging

Austrian packaging provider Borealis has launched a new transparent film said to have superior optical properties for enhanced retail shelf appearance.

Borclear RE936CF is a new grade of clear film made from highly transparent polypropolene, producing what the company claims is outstanding quality blown and cast films.

Designed for a variety of personal care packaging uses, particularly for secondary packaging applications, the new film is also said to suit both food and medical products as it is suitable for sterilized applications.

Produced using proprietary technology

The film is produced using the company’s proprietary Borstar PP 2G technology giving it a superior gloss leading to better pack aesthetics, which is even retained after sterilization.

This is acheived because Borstar PP 2G consists of a new catalyst system that, in combination with process improvements, results in a more simplified and less hazardous production technique, likewise lowering energy consumption and costs

Another advantage of the film is the fact that it retains its quality throughout the production process, even if that process is speeded up.

Faster processing time

Many transparent films deteriorate at more rapid production and processing speeds, which means that speeds have to be kept slower to avoid the packaging quality being compromised.

However, Borealis points out that its new film allows for more than 15 per cent higher film line speed, while maintaining opitical quality, a factor that helps to speed up production time, as well as saving money on all-important energy costs.

Borealis says this is a particular advantage at a time when packaging film converters are facing tough competition on their margins in an effort to keep prices down and remain competitive.
