Dow Reichhold Speciality Latex has developed a range of
emulsion-based polymers that promise to help formulators in the
context of high raw material prices thanks to their multiple

Developed for hair and skin care applications, the company said the polymers have many functions, being for example mild, deodorizing, anti-static and film forming. Benefits of multiple attributes Marketing manager Douglas Johnson told "They have the potential of providing what two or three other ingredients would have provided before." The versatility of the ingredients will help manufacturers contain costs as high oil and commodity prices push up raw material costs, said Johnson. He added the polymers also boast very clean rinsability and come in a liquid form so they can be easily incorporated into cosmetic formulations. Upcoming launch at Suppliers' Day Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex will launch the patented technology in May at Suppliers' Day in New Jersey - an event for cosmetic formulators organized by the New York Society of Cosmetics Chemists. Attendees will be able to see the polymers in action as the company will be presenting shampoo and body wash samples containing the ingredients. With the launch, Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex, which is a joint venture between the Dow Chemical Company and Reichhold, will be making its first move in the market for cosmetic ingredients. The products were developed by a team of scientists led by Dr. Venkataram Krishnan, who saw the potential of the polymers for the cosmetic industry while working on other applications. "Our goal is to enable a new generation of personal care products based on the unique functionality and properties of this family of advanced polymers," said Dr. Krishnan. "We are encouraged by what others have to say about our polymers."
