Sederma gains further industry certification

French ingredients provider Sederma has further consolidated its
lead within the cosmetics industry following the announcement that
it has received the OHSAS 18001 health and safety standard.

The certification was awarded by a panel of 14 of the world's leading national and international standards bodies and specialist consultancies. They hold 80 per cent of the world market for management system certification. The OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety certification is a follow on from the ISO 14001 certification, which Sederma received in 2003. The ISO 141001 recognises a company that has created an environmental management system that meets the standard. The OHSAS 18001 complements the ISO standard by recognising a company that has controls for occupational health and safety risks. Sederma's receipt of the new certification will no doubt make the company an attractive option for cosmetic manufacturers who wish to work with a company who has an overall concept of safety, not only in product development but also in the work place. The combination allows the company to promote to manufacturers its umbrella of certifications that cover quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management. Part of the Croda group, Sederma has made a concerted effort of late to maintain its foothold within the cosmetics industry with the release of a new skin brightening product and a new preventative skin care ingredient - targeting two core segments in the market at present. Sederma is also taking part in a research project conducted at the Cosmetics Valley, the umbrella organisation that represents personal care businesses in Chartres and the surrounding region, south-west of Paris. The project is being run in partnership with Biogalenys and a team of biologists from the University of Rouen. The project aims to establish alternative testing methods for research in skin ageing, with €2.8m already secured to fund the project.
