Expanscience launched the Demether initiative in 2006 in response to the challenge of sustainable development. Amongst other things, it establishes guidelines for the selection of ingredients and respect for biodiversity. Demether also involves Expanscience's suppliers by encouraging them in the use of fair trade materials, respect for the environment and energy conservation.

It has registered 48 patents within the last ten years.
