In his report which was published last week, Lord Leveson remarked on the guidelines as being: “in my view commendable for their utility as well as their succinctness. Any new regulator should bear them closely in mind.”
Dr Chris Flower, director-general of the trade association, CTPA, commented: “Science Media Centre’s guidelines could mark a really positive step forward for reportage about the safety of cosmetics products.”
“The guidelines propose that media should take a robust, evidence-based approach to reporting and be mindful of making extrapolations or drawing links if there is no scientific evidence to support these.”
