Brazil recognition means all Evonik cosmetics sites have GMP certification

Certification guarantees that the German supplier is in compliance with all mandatory quality assurance requirements for manufacturing, monitoring, storing, and distributing raw materials for the cosmetics industry.

The Americana site in Brazil was the last one to achieve this recognition and joins the other facilities in Europe, America and Asia.

"We can now demonstrate that all of our sites throughout the world work according to uniform standards and at the same level of quality,"​ says Dr. Tammo Boinowitz, head of Evonik’s Personal Care Business Line.

Joining the ranks​

The ingredient supplier’s European sites, which had been certified as meeting GMP requirements for cosmetics back in 2012, were recertified for the first time at the end of autumn 2015.

The company’s North American and Asian production facilities for cosmetic ingredients were confirmed as GMP compliant in 2013 and 2014.

In addition, an integrated quality and environmental management system has also been established at all sites and certified as ISO 9001 and 14001 compliant.

"That’s yet another way that we meet the high standards of our global customers,"​ Boinowitz points out.

In other news involving Evonik, a team of its researchers, in cooperation with scientists at Graz University, have discovered a biocatalytic access to 1-alkenes such as propene and 1-butene; which are considered as key substances for the chemical industry's sophisticated integrated production of high-quality products.

For example, Evonik uses propene in the manufacture of superabsorbents or methionine, while 1-butene serves as a component in many types of polyethylene and can be used as a raw material for producing plasticizers, which are used in personal care products.
