Wacker’s expanded cyclodextrin facility opens

27-May-2009

Germany-based chemical supplier Wacker has started production at its newly expanded cyclodextrin production site in Eddyville, Iowa.

With the new facility, the company will be able to produce up to 7,500 metric tons of the ingredients a year, used in the cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and food sectors.

The company invested $21m in the expansion of the facility and according to Wacker’s Gerhard Schmid it strengthens the company’s market position for cyclodextrins.

As part of the expansion, a byproduct-processing plant has also been constructed, designed to reduce the facility’s steam consumption by 35 per cent.
