Sunscreen Mist is a vending-based dispensing system that automates the sun protection process, while also ensuring total coverage of all areas of the body exposed to the sun.
Created and first distributed in the US, where it has proved popular in high-end resorts, the technology is being brought to Europe by UK-based distributor Spraynlay.
The company says that it has obtained exclusive distribution rights that will see the technology appearing in resorts, hotels, luxury apartments, waterparks and campgrounds in Spain, France, Greece and Monaco this summer.
"The strong demand for Sunscreen Mist's products in the United States will certainly translate well to the unbelievably wide range of hotels, and other outdoor venues in Europe," said Jordan Lichman, the US-based president of Sunscreen Mist.
The company claims that the technology replaces the cans, tubes and 'missed spots' associated with the applying sunscreen and other sun care products.
The latter point is particularly relevant, especially given the huge increase in the worldwide rate of skin cancers in recent years, and consumers increasing awareness of the need to protect the skin adequately from the sun to avoid this risk.
The actual spray process is said to take just 15 seconds and is applied to as much of the body as required, or else to just key areas exposed to the sun.
Likewise using the vending booths is easy, with all the formulas being tear- and stain-proof, making it suitable for children, and payment made with currency, credit or debit cards, or simply custom printed coupons.
What will prove most interesting to suncare producers is the possibility of securing a supply contract in conjunction with the supply of this kind of technology, which, if it takes off in Europe, could prove to be highly lucrative.
Currently the major supplier for Sunscreen Mist in the US is Allevea Suncare Products, which supplies a range of natural-based premium sun care products - and the initial launch in Europe plans to extend the supply agreement there.
The Allevea's range includes SPF Sunscreen Spray, a tan-accelarating spray and an aloe vera cooling mist for after sun treatment.
Daniel Moosah, the UK-based entrepreneur responsible for bringing the technology to Europe, says that there is also a significant opportunity for hotel and resort-owners - estimating that the booths could generate up to €100,000 a year.
