Promens claims that its new airless dispensing system, ecolution, cuts down on carbon dioxide emissions and is more easily recyclable than traditional piston based airless packages.
The package was launched at last week’s Luxe Pack show in Monaco and picked up the Luxe Pack green award, running for the first time this year.
Made entirely out of plastic, polypropylene and polyethylene, ecolution is totally recyclable, according to the company. In addition, the bottle can be made with recycled polyethylene, further reducing its environmental impact.
Airless packaging is a popular choice for skin care products as it can help protect the formula from contamination as well as having a near total restitution rate.
However, the number of parts involved in the complex pump mechanism does not always make it an ecological alternative.
Half the number of parts
Promens claims the ecolution has half the number of parts of a traditional piston-based airless dispenser; 5 for the ecolution in comparison to an average of 12 for a piston-based system and 15 for an aluminium pouch based system.
This helps reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of the product.
“Ecolution has 30 percent less carbon dioxide emissions than a classic piston-based dispenser,” a Promens spokesperson told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com
“This reduction is related to fewer parts, but also we produce the bottles in a one step process which uses less energy,” the spokesperson added.
Ecolution is available with two pump heads, a short nozzle and a long nozzle, and 5 different bottle sizes ranging from 50 to 500ml.
The spokesperson explained the shorter nozzles are designed for smaller packages containing products such as face creams, with the longer nozzles targeting the larger bottles containing shower gels.
