Our weekly roundup of the top need-to-know stories that have emerged from the beauty and personal care industry this week.

1. Estée Lauder has beefed up (even more)

This week, global beauty giant expand its operations even further, completing its acquisition of BECCA Cosmetics,​ and also announcing its biggest deal yet: the acquisition of millennial favourite, Too Faced.

We note that Estée Lauder appears to be set on winning over next-generation consumers and move forward in the evolving beauty marketplace, with these acquisitions set to help position it to do so.

Estée Lauder is paying a huge $1.4bn for Too Faced, and reports put the BECCA deal at $200m.

2. DuPont packaging awards are open

DuPont, the chemical material company, has opened its annual packaging award up for entries:​ the DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation.

The company’s packaging awards are the industry’s longest-running, global and independently-judged competition, according to DuPont, and set out to recognise “game-changing packaging innovations”.

3. How can brands evolve in personal care? Our interview series

This week, we released an exclusive interview three-part series​, which took an in-depth look at one of the key players making strides to dominant in the Asia Pacific region: Ashland, global specialty chemicals company. Its vice president of personal and home care, Vito Consiglio, explained the areas the company believes are most important to tackle for any brands looking to dominate in the region.

4. in-cosmetics roundup

One of the leading trade shows for the industry, in-cosmetics, held its Asia edition last week, attracting record numbers​ and proving a ‘celebration’ of the industry, according to its organiser, Sarah Gibson.

On the back of its success, we look ahead to the upcoming Global edition of the show, set to hit London in 2017. The event’s organisers have revealed two new features set to be added to the showfloor: a makeup bar and a sustainability corner.

5. IFSCC in the spotlight

Another key date in the industry calendar, the IFSCC congress took place in Florida at the start of this month.
