Aldivia is launching a range of Ecocert certified organic surfactants for the cosmetics market.

Surfactants are a problem area for formulators of organic cosmetics but Aldivia claims to have filled a hole in the market with its new certified organic ingredients.

The French supplier is expanding its Viatenza line of surfactants with the launch of 8 new products. These are all derived from vegetable oils including olive, shea, argan, marula, and Brazil nut and are then chemically transformed following the principles of green chemistry.

Organic certification

Despite being chemically extracted and processed, the ingredients are certified organic by Ecocert and also respect the requirements of the new Cosmos standard.

Cosmos, the soon to be launched harmonized European standard, will allow chemically transformed products to be certified so long as they are derived from organic raw materials and respect the principles of green chemistry.

Green chemistry

Aldivia spokesperson Marianne Cochennec told CosmeticsDesign.com that its new surfactants are “100 per cent green” because they respect all the principles of green chemistry.

What this means is that no petrochemicals or solvents are used and that the processing leaves behind a limited carbon footprint.

Aldivia said the new organic additions to the Viatenza range will help formulators to manufacture products that respond to the demands of Cosmos and increase the percentage of organic matter in their formulations.

The new products will be showcased at In-Cosmetics in Munich next month alongside Aldivia’s existing range of natural and organic cosmetic ingredients.
