Lycored, a major player in the nutritional supplements industry, has been awarded for its study demonstrating how Lycopene-Rich Tomato Nutrition Complex (TNC) and lutein can protect against light radiation at a molecular level.

The skin health study, published in the British Journal of Dermatology, was awarded the NutraIngredients Award for ‘Best University Research’ at the recent Vitafoods industry event.

The research and findings for the study was carried out and compiled by the Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine, and showed that Lycored’s Lycopene-Rich TNC and lutein can protect against UVA/B- and UVA1 radiation at a molecular level, guarding the skin against solar radiation-induced health damage.

The company notes that the findings add to the increasing evidence that suggests photoprotection by oral supplementation with carotenoids is a way forward for sun care.

Skin supplements: on the up?

Lycored’s head of global health division. Golan Raz, explained that recognition for the research will help promote the segment of beauty supplements and nutricosmetics, an area that has been seeing rising investment and interest in recent months.

The study sheds light on a particular niche in this field of research, and to be recognized for it in this category further advances the credibility of our Lycopene-Rich Tomato Nutrient Complex; Thereby also advancing our overall skin health and wellness program which has grown tremendously in an effort to support the idea of ingestible skincare as a mainstream concept in the U.S.,” he confirmed.

Raz also noted that the award serves to recognise the emphasis Lycored places on research and development.

To say we are appreciative of this win would not do justice to how humbled we are. Research and development is the foundation of Lycored’s technologies to ensure a successful process of vertical integration from seed to supplement.”
