Symrise cosmetics ingredients win innovation prizes

Major ingredients player Symrise saw two of its ingredients awarded at the recent BSB Innovation Prizes in London.

Its warming ingredient Thermolat won the category Cosmetics/Innovative Ingredients/functionals and recipients, and its multifunctional anti-aging peptide Dragosine won third prize in the category Cosmetics/Innovative Ingredients/actives and naturals.

The innovation awards for cosmetics, natural products and their chemical raw materials were announced by the independent Consulting and Service Bureau Dr. Riedel (BSB) this April.

The awards underscore the Holzminden-based company’s outstanding market position,” said Symrise, of itself, in a statement. The company emphasised the importance of sensory benefits to its winning ingredients.

“Intensive, rich skin care and an improved sensory experience – this is what consumers want from their cosmetics.”

Warming win

The company’s winning Thermolat ingredient offers an innovative, ‘pleasant’ warming effect on the skin. The ingredient can contribute to improving the perceived effectiveness of body care products, says Symrise.

Protective dipeptide

The other ingredient awarded, Dragosine, is a dipeptide naturally found in the human body, according to Symrise, and can be used to increase the skin’s defense. It acts as a multifunctional anti-ageing ingredient with powerful antioxidant properties that stimulate collagen synthesis.

It also apparently aims to act as a buffer to ‘light pollution’: Symrise says it has been shown to also have ‘excellent results’ in the protection from damages induced by UV, infrared and high-energy visible light.
