Cosmetics Design's skin care event - what to expect!

On June 24th, the fifth edition of Cosmetics Design's Skin Care Ingredients event will go live! Here, we give you a sneak peek into what attendees can expect from the expert discussions that will be featured in the conference programme.

Our feature articles in today's newsletter are a taster of what top industry experts will expand on in seven webinar presentations next Wednesday.

Leading cosmetic players participating in this year's event include Coty and Nu Skin, ingredient suppliers Merck and Mibelle, a regulatory expert from Seers Consulting, market analyst, Mintel and the Institute for In Vitro Sciences.

The conference program will commence at 2pm (Europe/Paris time) with a webinar entitled 'Spreadability and Efficacy' and carry on right up until 6.30pm, finishing with a round table that will include a number of the speakers from the program who will be discussing a spectrum of topics, including challenges, trends and ideas of what might be in store for the skin care category in the future.

1. Importance of applying a sunscreen properly on product efficacy

In the lab a sunscreen product may pass all the tests, but if it is not applied properly then this could be irrelevant, meaning the spreadability of a product can be very important to its efficacy.

According to Dr Marc Pissavini, Coty’s Basic & Applied Research Director, one of the challenges manufacturers face is meeting the need for an efficient (SPF 30) product but it needs to have a good sensorial feel and spread well when applied.

Marc will be discussing sunscreen application, spreadability and its importance on product efficacy in the first session of the day.

This webinar will look at how these products can be formulated ensuring that the product can be spread easily and evenly and still be effective; and how important this is.

2. Skin care - regulatory updates you do not want to miss!

The ever-changing skin care segment is seeing break-neck growth and demand for natural and anti-ageing products. Thus, keeping up with legislation on a global scale can be a challenge.

In this session, regulatory specialist Alain Khaiat will deliver a presentation around the most recent guidelines in Europe, the US and Asia's skin care segments, as well as an update on any new requirements.

The founder of Seers Consulting will also look at the use of natural and organic oils or indeed multi-functional products regarding any additional/special requirements, as global demand for these type of products rises.

3. NuSkin applies scientific rigour to the essential oils trend

Essential oils have been valued by many cultures for centuries and recently, as consumers have moved towards a preference for natural cosmetics, they have become more prevalent in beauty products; and skin care manufacturer NuSkin has offered its expertise in this area.

Having identified that the essential oils market is growing rapidly, NuSkin has been undertaking scientific research in this field, and earlier this year announced the upcoming introduction of Epoch Essential Oils in the United States, Canada and Latin America.

The results of this and how these were achieved will be discussed in more detail by Helen and Senior Associate Scientist, Brian Cook in a webinar that will focus on the benefits and pitfalls of essential oils.
