Swedish company Biovelop will use the up coming in-cosmetics show in Milan to expose the personal care industry to its new natural active oat ingredients.

The company, who specialises in cereal fractionation, has launched its new Avenacare range of ingredients which are specifically for personal care and cosmetic formulations.

“We see in-cosmetics as a great opportunity to meet potential customers and distributors for our natural active ingredients,” Fredrik Bjurenvall, marketing director at Biovelop, told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com.

Research and development

Biovelop has invested more than €20 million into the research and development of its patented, chemical-free fractionation process.

“Our patented production process is based on physically separating out the beneficial fractions of the oat grain. This means we can produce Avenacare ingredients without the use of chemicals and in significant volumes to meet the demands of large and small customers. This is unique amongst oat ingredient producers,” explained Bjurenvall.

In particular, Biovelop is keen to highlight its oat beta glucan, from the Avenacare range, which it claims has anti-aging and skin-rejuvenation properties.

Skin restoration

The company states that the oat beta glucan molecules are capable of penetrating their way through the intercellular lipid matrix of the skin to the deepest layers of the dermis, stimulating the synthesis of collagen, reducing wrinkles and helping to restore vitality to the skin.

The ingredient can also be used to relieve skin irritations, as well as to accelerate the healing of minor wounds and burns, in addition to being incorporated into hair care products to provide nourishment.

The Sweden-based firm also says that personal care products, such as wet wipes and sanitary wipes, can also benefit from the soothing properties of oats when impregnated with the oat beta glucan.

The Avenacare ingredients are also hypoallergenic and gluten-free, so can be used by all skin types and incorporated into both new and existing formulations.
