The Salon International des Matières Premières pour la Parfumerie continued to build on its profile of a well-respected fragrance industry event in this year’s recent edition in Paris.

Organised by the French Society of Perfumers, this was the 13th International Exhibition of Raw Materials for Perfumery. Thierry Duclos, head of the SIMPPAR organising committee, described the event as a ‘great success’.

This event has now become well known internationally and we have received this year a number of visitors from afar (Russia, Israel, South America, Africa…) and the same for the press accreditation,” he told Cosmetics Design.

“It has definitely become THE main event for raw materials for perfumery and many exhibitors say that they place it on top of their list of events.”

Markers of success

According to the show organisers, figures for this year’s edition of the biannual event were strong. They include:

  • 71 exhibitors (compared with 50 in 2015) coming from 17 countries

  • 42 were suppliers of essential oils

  • 21 suppliers synthetic products

  • 5 packing or service providers

  • 5 associations

  • 4 schools / universities

  • 5 professional press / magazines

  • More than 50 press accreditation

  • A cocktail with 400 participants

  • The 2017 award of the perfumer prize to a young Chinese perfumer working with Robertet

  • More than 1500 visitors

Looking to the future

Moving on from here, the show is likely to continue to build in momentum as the fragrance market continues to develop. Duclos notes that SIMPPAR aims to grow in a manageable way.

“It’s always difficult to anticipate on future events specially 2 years ahead. This being said, we can reasonably expect 20 more exhibitors and more or less 200-400 visitors more for the next one in 2019,” he predicts.

It should be noted that we want to keep control on the development of this show and make it grow slowly but regularly, in order to maintain the same concept and easy atmosphere.”

In the meantime, organisers say they are in dialogue with the exhibitors to see whether there is a need for any updates to the format, and are looking forward to working towards its 2019 edition. This is scheduled for 5 & 6 June 2019.
