Changes to the Cosmetics Directive will include a maximum concentration limit on the ingredient of 0.8 per cent in soap, anti-dandruff shampoos and non spray deodorants.
In addition, a maximum concentration limit of 0.4 per cent has been decided on the use of the ingredient as a preservative in cosmetic products.
However, the ingredient should not be used in lip oral and spray products due to the potential for mucosal and respiratory tract irritation.
All changes need to be respected by March 2011.
